Lawmakers urge Pentagon IG to investigate handling of Spc. Vanessa Guillen’s case

I have seen the opposite, as soon as there is a SHARP complaint filed the accused is guilty until proven innocent. One of the first steps in the process is to immediately pull the accused security clearance, plus removal from their position of authority. Personnel are moved to other commands to protect the victims and the accused while the investigations is conducted. They ARE NOT laterally moved to a like position, they are moved to a position that has no authority and work for somebody else. Not all SHARP cases involve physical acts, hence each case is judged and punished on it own merits. Most people think there is never any punishment because these investigations take months to complete. I have never seen a verified SHARP accusation NOT result in punishment. On my final deployment we had 4 SHARP complaints within my command. All of the accused were officers. A company commander was immediately relieved upon being accused. Several months later (about 5 1/2 to 6), he was given a Generals Letter of Reprimand (a career death sentence) and forced out of the Army. Two others were Officer/Enlisted fraternization issues. A Major (P) was given a Generals Letter of Reprimand, and removed from the promotion list. Upon completion of our deployment he left the Army because his upward mobility was gone. Mind you, this was an adult consensual affair between an enlisted member and the said officer. The second fraternization case was a young 2LT who did the same thing as the Major. He received a subpar OER, was denied an end of tour award even though he stepped in and ran the company for the above mentioned Company Commander who was relieved. The final was a made up case, proven to be so, and STILL the Major received a subpar OER and they were forced out of the command by the Brigade Commander. If not for another Colonel from another command giving him a position, he would have lost his career on a made up SHARP complaint. The problem is troops (to include SGTs and SSGs) do not see or hear about the end results, and punishments. Hence they ASSUME nothing was done. Fact is a SHARP complaint against a Senior Enlisted or an Officer is a career killer period whether it is factual or not.

CSM Rick Cassel - I have seen SHARP and EO both come out. It was the IG I was referring to. One of the problems with SHARP (Speaking from a SVUI view) if that the Majority of the time the predator has been getting away with it for extended periods. And they are the units "High Speed Golden Child" that can do no wrong. You are correct it takes a long time. What the SHARP program should be showing Soldiers is that it does work. not some cutesy video where where the units keep yelling "Yeas Command Sergeant Major" "Roger Command Sergeant Major" you know the one I mean.I have also seen them get away with it in the Army but get cause in the "Real World" Former Major Robert E Davidson comes to mind he ruined or almost ruined alot of Soldier including me. It IG at Carson investigated and found nothing. But never interviews me or any of my NCOs. He is currently a guest of the Colorado State Penal System because when he got out he got a job as a JROTC Commander and then slept with the cadets.

SSG (Join to see) - My comment was about "Every SHARP complaint I’ve seen pushed up they just move the soldier to another company/BN and that’s that". My main point is, although you can always find exceptions to the rule, the vast majority of personnel do not get away with SHARP violations, and every command I was ever in took them very seriously.
