19. The New Historicism

Feel like challenging your mind today? There's a lot to grab from this. Fair warning: it seems a typical lecture from an Ivy league school, dry but FULL of knowledge. Would love to here and learn from others! Here is one thought for reflection:

Power can be the way in which knowledge circulates in a culture. And knowledge here doesn't necessarily mean something that is true. History can be the background to our discourse in the present. Yet, there is also an agency or capacity to circulate power within our use of history or lack thereof. Meaning, history is not just information applied to something, it can also be a vehicle for authority or control.

This aligns with the particular train of thought called New Historicism.
