I'm against allowing adversary nations controlling inputs to our national infrastructure (electrical power grid, water supplies, transportation systems), and the engineer in me questions the cost-benefit of wind energy compared to modern nuclear energy, so this is a double-negative for me.

I am with you on all counts. I don't want foreign investiment in our infrastructure and nuclear is much cheaper and more reliable. It's been made much safer. Time for a relook.

Nuclear energy is great. Clean and efficient but what to do with the waste? That's the problem. Well that and possible accidents at power plants.

The Yucca mountain site is quite deep and very remote. No perfect answers for any source of energy (if you like birds, you may not like modern wind mills, for example). Accidents are always possible...even in the US. 3 mile island killed exactly zero people though, while offshore platforms and coal mines have killed hundreds and thousands, respectively.
