I had some good times that I look back on and do not regret, but I realized one important thing last year. When I didn't have the substances I wanted in my system, I was a different person. I was secluded, withdrawn, negative, edgy, extremely judgmental, an insomniac and had a very negative view of the world and life in general. Yet when I got a hold of the leefy green and some drinks, I was social, fun, outgoing, creative, positive and the life of the party. After a big fight with my girlfriend one day last year, I decided to go sober for a while to see what would happen. I went through a period of withdrawl and it was no party. I was puking, I had the shakes, I could not sleep, I was moody, edgy and I saw life as a dark shadow of what it really was.

This was my wakeup call. I realized that I had given my power away to these things. In doing so, what was happening in the background was that I was basically telling myself that my spirit and my energy are not enough for me to be happy and denying myself my connection to God and the God nature within.
