I am reading Courts Martial by Chris Bray right now. It is very interesting to see where military justice has been, what it did, what it didn't, and how it has evolved from the revolutionary war until now. Courts martial were liberally used and abused, even to settle petty personal squabbling.

PS this book peaks, unbeknownst to the reader at the point where the US adopts the UCMJ...and it's like the guy finished writing it in a rush because he had to go to the bathroom. There were so many legal issues he could have discussed in reference to the court martial and just avoided. I do not recommend this book.

I am fascinated with the 19th century military justice, especially pre-CW and Civil War... But think people now pay big money this stuff...

We had a young Sgt charged with adultery while I was in 25th ID, in Hawaii. He was seen by the husband, who actually had the sense to call the MPs. They were both in the Stinger Plt, and had to be kept separated when the Husband was moved into the batracks, after shipping his wife home with divorce papers.
