FAR part 91 places the limit at 1,000 feet over the highest obstacle (let's say the Washington Monument). Generally DoD complies with the FARs...but, military necessity can always override.
91.119 Minimum safe altitudes; general
(b) Over congested areas – Over any congested area of a city, town, or settlement, or over any open-air assembly of persons, an altitude of 1,000 feet above the highest obstacle within a horizontal radius of 2,000 feet of the aircraft.

Col Joseph Lenertz Seems that using a Red Cross marked helicopter for crowd dispersal in a US city should be... Wrong.

Why would you be bothered by that? Is it because Trump is President? If Obama was President would you be whining about it? Just curious Sir.

PO3 Kenneth Suvanto I would be 100% worried about any President using a medevac helicopter as an offensive tool against US citizens. And at 50 feet above the crowd? That's just asking for a catastrophic incident. I'd like to see the risk assessment on that maneuver - and who signed off on it.
For any President.
For any President.

PO3 Kenneth Suvanto Now, do YOU think it's safe to fly a helicopter, in a city like this?

MAJ Bryan Zeski - Sir Maj Bryan Sir...if it would be necessary YES. I agree with Msgt Steve...using a RC helo for a stunt like that is asking for trouble and is not necessary nor prudent in this instance sir. P.S., I guess I'm still learning. If trump has aides like you guys and listens to them, he will be fine and everything will work out.

MAJ Bryan Zeski
PO3 Kenneth Suvanto That's the problem. He doesn't have aides who disagree with him, because they quit or get fired.

Government is exempt from their own rules--especially when Trump wants something done.
