On March 6, 2020, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency after the first COVID-19 patient was identified in the state. Since then, Gov. Beshear has held a briefing every day at 5:00 p.m. Like President Franklin Roosevelt’s “fireside chats” during the 1930s and 40s, these briefings have become a mainstay of information, clear-headed leadership, and positive encouragement for the people of Kentucky. In the midst of the coronavirus and the chaotic leadership at the federal level, the those in Kentucky and beyond have come to rely on Beshear for steady, forthright, and compassionate guidance.

Do you want my opinion as one of the 600,000 furloughed Kentuckians? Or have I a number of self employed friends that have a completely different opinion too. Or I may be able to get my dentist to reply on what he thinks of petty officials telling him how to deal with employee and patient protection from infectious diseases. Oh, my last day at work was March 27, my first unemployment check was May 22. I'm one of the lucky ones, I was able to keep all my bills paid up during that period, but I wasn't the exception and thousands have been waiting for unemployment and most are not in the condition to meet that challenge. How many of those jobs aren't coming back? Then lets look at some of the essential businesses, like Pawn Shops, and non essential businesses, like Dentists and routine healthcare. How many deaths have there been in Kentucky? Then guess how many of those deaths were in Long Term Care facilities.
