Laser technology will be a Revolution in Military Affairs which means it gives a strong advantage for those who can field such technology.

the current problem is the power demands, for most of these DEWs you need a big ass dedicated generator to produce the energy required to power the weapon. limits the mobility and all it takes is PVT Snuffy forgetting to top off the generator and your weapon is out of commission.

LTC (Join to see) - Yes I have heard of that as well and other problems like diffusion due to environmental conditions. Who ever designed the M1 tank were brilliant for using lasers to determine distances to the targets to determine a good ballistic solution.
