ABMs are fine for conventional ballistic threats like that posed by the DPRK, but won't do anything against hypersonic and the most likely attack mechanism, cyber. Any attack on the US would begin with efforts to blind detection, degrade C2, and deny accurate response, and the vehicle for that is cyber.
