Trump considers short-term 'enforceable' quarantine of 3 US states, backlash already begins

When did "quarantine" become such a controversial concept? Once upon a time, it was used frequently and effectively to present the spread of communicable disease. Indeed, I haven't seen or heard of any viable alternative. It seems to me that the pivotal moment was the arrival of HIV. How many lives might have been saved had we quarantined those testing positive for HIV until we discovered effective controls to prevent and treat it? Sadly, quarantining such patients was deemed prejudicial, an affront to the "community" principally suffering from the disease, and infected individuals were allowed to wander freely infecting others. I found it interesting when President Trump attempted to erect a quarantine barrier by closing ports to entry by people from the nation in which Covid-19 originated. He was deemed "RACIST" for even suggesting such a thing. However, it seems clear that while his quarantine didn't stop the emergence of the disease among us, it may have slowed it down sufficiently while we began to collect data and determine that it was a pandemic. Now, once again, President Trump is excoriated for not putting political correctness ahead of public welfare.
