"In a memo distributed to his colleagues, Dr. Craig R. Smith, the chair of the department of surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian, said the hospital is “consuming 40,000 such masks per day, which is estimated to reach 70,000 per day” at peak levels."

A single hospital consuming 40,000 N95 masks per day? What is wrong with this picture?

LTC John Shaw - OK. Do you not see the problem with these types of numbers? If that one hospital is consuming 40,000 mask in a single day, where are they being stored? These are packaged 2 to a package with 12 packages to a case (24 masks per case). That is 1,667 cases that are about 6"x10"x18" in size per case. To move and store this amount of N95 masks would require a 20' (twenty foot) shipping container (CONEX). Side note: A 20' shipping container could hold about 1,849 cases of these mask.

Robert, I did not understand it until you broke that number down.
No hospital could handle 20 shipping containers of masks in a single day, every day.

LTC John Shaw - Thanks for the response. NOT 20 containers a day, but 1 x 20ft container a day.

Those numbers are crazy. If we manage our resources, we can deal until the supply lines catch up especially if people go back to work

SSG Robert Webster - 20 shipping containers a day, every day, so in a week 140 shipping containers, that is nuts!

LTC John Shaw - Actually that would be 7 shipping containers a week for mask alone, that does not include the other shipping container for all of the other disposable PPE that they are talking about. So that would be 2 shipping containers a day for a total of 14 in a week.
But you are correct it is still nuts!

One of my concerns was keeping first responders safe.
