In Defense of U.S. Generalship | National Review

An excellent review of the mil-civilian leader relationship in the US. How policy drives strategy and how limited wars are different than total wars. Many of us yearn for total war when we are young officers because we can understand the rules easier. Limited war forces us to understand principles like Clausewitz's trinity of the Leader, the Military, and the People. The generals executing the war can no more be individually blamed for the result than the Executive or the People.
