Corona Virus / COVID-19
→ Covid 19 is a respiratory virus that might cause sever pneumonia, severe pulmonary disease and can be virulent. However, the effect can be different for different age groups.
→ World Health Organization has announced this corona virus COVID-19 is a pandemic and the world is in the state of emergency right now. Hence, as a human everyone should be concerned in the matter.
Who are at the highest risk?
Older adults and people who have sever underlying chronic medical conditions like heart or lung disease or diabetes seem to be at the higher risk for developing some serious complications due to COVID-19.
Symptoms
The following symptoms may appear in between 2-14 days of exposure
→ Fever
→ Cough
→ Shortness of Breath
Since, it might take up to 14 days to show the symptoms by the infected person, he/she might infect several other before knowing they are infected by this virus themselves.
Emergency warning signs of COVID 19
→ Difficulty Breathing or shortness of breath.
→ Persistent pain or pressure in the chest.
→ Bluish lips or face.
How it Spread?
The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person.
→ Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).
→ Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.
There are several unknown facts regarding this newly evolved corona virus COVID 19. It was reported that several people had it and still they show no symptoms. Likewise, the youths were found to be the major contributors transmitting this virus. most of the youth affected by this virus does not know that they are affected since they get no symptoms or mild symptoms like that of normal common cold.
How can we contribute to stop this pandemic and protect ourselves and our families?
The major prevention measure for COVID 19 is Social Distancing. We should avoid the gatherings and should avoid contact with the people who are sick. Put distance between yourself and other people. Do not get out of your homes until it is really necessary or until you have some important tasks.
Take steps to protect yourself maintaining healthy hygiene’s
Clean your hands often
→ Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
→ if soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
→ Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Take steps to protect your family members and people in the community
→ Stay at home if you are sick, except to get medical care.
→ Cover your mouth and nose while cough or sneeze with tissues, throw the used tissues in the trash and immediately wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
→ Wear a face mask if you are sick, or if you are taking care of someone who is sick.
→ Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets and sinks.
→ Use Detergent, soap water or any other alcoholic disinfectant with 70% alcohol in it.
