American big-band musician, arranger, composer, and bandleader Glenn Miller was born. He was the best-selling recording artist from 1939 to 1943, leading one of the best-known big bands. In just four years Glenn Miller scored 23 No.1 hits. Miller's recordings include 'In the Mood', 'Moonlight Serenade', 'Pennsylvania 6-5000', and 'Chattanooga Choo Choo'. On December 15, 1944, while traveling to entertain US troops in France during World War II, Miller's aircraft disappeared in bad weather over the English Channel."

He quickly became a legend in the music industry and it is easy to see why - he made people happy.

Miller was an amazing composer and bandleader. I grew up listening to his albums along with Woody Herman, the Dorsey Brothers, Duke Ellington, Tex Benicky, and several others. "String of Pearls" and "Moonlight Cocktail" are among my favorites and the albums which I inherited are still played with some regularity - They don't make music like this anymore. It is believed the plane Miller was in was found several years ago in the English Channel; It will not likely be recovered.
