President can authorize short term use of troop in a "war" congress has to authorize their further use. There is no change here they are backing off the freedom to engage they gave Bush.

SSG Robert Ricci - The War Powers Act provides that military operations with a duration of over 60 days (not 90) requires an authorization from Congress. Military operations in Libya (and clandestine operations after "we left") went on for something like 80 days.
Ergo, Barry violated the War Powers Act, and the same folks bent out of shape because Trump whacked avowed terrorist Soleimani were silent.
That is my point.

1SG (Join to see) OK. Now I know where you're coming from. I wasn't sure which side you were on. And for the record and an AMUF allows 60 days of conflict and 30 days to leave totalling 90 days.
I too find it hard to believe that the democrats are going so crazy and even 8 republicans because we took out Soleimani. He's been behind the covert war machine for decades and it's about time we had a commander in chief that was willing to go after the source. How's that expression go? Something about cutting the head of the snake off?'

SSG Robert Ricci - Obama, Rice et al swore the whole time that we were only giving a "supporting role" in Libya - something that was laughable to anyone who knew anything then and even more so now. Their rationale was that it wasn't really a military operation.
Scrutiny of any nature would have revealed that Libya was precisely the kind of regime change war that Senator/ Candidate/ President Obama had railed against the folly of. He was all about avoiding and deflecting an AUMF debate over Libya.
When Benghazi happened a year later, it threatened to reopen aspects of our involvement there on the eve of the 2012 election, so the administration floated their ridiculous "youtube video" nonsense.

1SG (Join to see) Right on the money. We further destabilize an already unstable country. We took out Kadafi who wasn't really causing a problem Other than trying to put down a civil war. He'd given up his weapons of mass destruction. The only issue was the Civil War as you probably already know where the United States took the side of the civilians and took out Took out Kadafi. As if we hadn't learned our lesson in Iran. We liberated the people of Iran and they turned on us and now look at the Quagmire. We're in. The Iranians want us out of the country. And they want Russia to come in. Russia, who has no Allegiance whatsoever to Israel. So what is the United States going to do? Say No, we're not going to leave? That then brings up the broader question as to whether or not we should leave and just let them kill each other off except that they would go after Israel. We didn't back up the King of Jordan when they needed us. We let the Muslim Brotherhood. Take over Egypt. The Democrats are going to go crazy over at my next statement, But I firmly believe that President Obama was a closet Muslim. He can say that he went to a Christian Church when in fact he did not. He went to a black theological Church. This type of church is about freeing those of color from oppression and not so much teaching of Christ. Of course, we know he attended a madrasah as a child. And now we have photographic evidence of him in Muslim apparel. I don't know if he's really from Kenya or not. Although I suspect he is. What I do know is he decimated our military and wanted to make us vulnerable to an attack from a third-rate country. He seemed to always put the needs and wants of Muslims ahead of the United States. We will never know, will we? With all the saber-rattling of President Trump and how he's going to get to the bottom. Of the Russian hoax and the Mueller hoax and everything that's gone on for the last four years where they've tried to trap him and one thing after another, little will come from it. I'm a conservative, but I tend to lean more towards the middle. You would not call me a neocon. Socially Progressive to some extent and fiscally conservative. I watch way too much news. I-10 now to put YouTube on.

So the Senate passes a non-binding resolution that will get vetoed.
That is exciting.

There's nothing to veto. It's a resolution. That's no different than making. Ronald McDonald the dog catcher of the year. They can come up with non-binding, which means they can't be held to it. That's because a non-binding resolution is a written motion adopted by a deliberative body that cannot progress into a law. The substance of the resolution can be anything that can normally be proposed as a motion.

SSG Robert Ricci - I'd like to file a motion:
Whereas Congress has done nothing useful this entire term;
Whereas Congress quotes the Constitution and founding fathers while simultaneously attempting to redact Amendments they don't like;
Whereas Congress literally tell us that they must hurry to vote on Impeachment due to a "Clear and Present Danger" to the nation, yet sit on said articles for 33 days before actioning them;
Whereas Congress completely abdicates its responsibility to pass a budget through regular order for 12 years running;
Whereas Congress has completely abdicated it's war powers to the President, yet bellyaches that they have the power to declare war which they have not exercised in nearly 80 years despite scores of wars and military actions since;
It is hereby resolved that Congress sucks and every last one of them should be voted out in Novemeber.

So some of the senate republicans are showing some integrity, and this is an encouraging sign!
