He doesn't need to testify. The story in the NYT is only someone relaying what they say the transcript said and changes none of the fundamentals of their case.
The House could have subpoenaed Bolton but they didn't want to do that as that would have stalled their rush to impeach. Now they want the Senate to do their job.
Sorry, they said their case had "overwhelming evidence" supporting impeachment. They had the vote to impeach in the house based upon their case. Their case has no evidence supporting impeachment now they are stuck. likely losing democrat senators.
They are asking for more witnesses because they have nothing to lose. They do not have 67 votes to remove, not even close. If they had the votes to remove would they be asking for more witnesses? The answer is no, they would not.
See my link to Bolton's recollection of the Trump/Zelensky phones calls in this thread.

Not going to change the House that brought the Impeachment along partisan lines and not going to change how the Senate will vote the same. Big waste of Congress' time and money.

MSG Stan Hutchison it’s hard not see that episode as what kicked the partisan tribalism into overdrive. The Bork hearings were probably the beginning but that Clinton impeachment...man, that’s when things got really nasty. It’s been all down hill since. Party Uber Alles!

MSG Stan Hutchison - I do not remember how well I followed Clinton's impeachment but can say now that I know more about it and the man, it was wrong.
