Just out of curiosity, what is the mission of Joint Personnel Support Units, and what do they do for service members?

MAJ Ken Landgren
LTC (Join to see) - They are like our Wounded Transition Units (WTU), but I really don't know the extent of their assistance. A WTU assists in providing a unit that's focus is on medical treatment in order for SMs to RTD or MEDBOARD. It is a holding unit. IT PROVIDES SUPPORT TO:
- To focus on medical treatment
- Facilitates the MEDBOARD process
- Provides an environment free of AD tasks for the SMs
- Coordinates for military and VA disability ratings
- Coordinates with the VA for transfer of care and finances
VARIABLES THAT IMPACT PTS SMs:
- Proper screening
- Unit leaders and their support
- Adequate medical and mental health care by the military
- Smooth and appropriate transition to the VA
- Adequate medical and mental health care by the VA
That being said, the standards often vary and our SMs and Veterans suffer. It makes me mad as it is not rocket science.
