That talking point is a misrepresentation of what actually transpired. As part of the nuclear agreement their frozen assets from 1979 were returned to them. That is not "giving" them free cash to buy them off.

MSgt Robert "Rock" Aldi SN (Join to see) CMSgt (Join to see) How would you feel if a country interfered in one of our duly constituted elections and put in power someone not elected. That is what the CIA did in the early 1950's. They assisted in overthrowing the elected government of Iran and installed the Shah. Our actions have consequences. This is the blowback that Ron Paul spoke of. CPT Jack Durish ,

It all sounds good to say that the money was Iran's. However, the Clinton administration paid $400 million of US tax payer money to compensate victims of Iranian state sponsored terrorism. In the case of the bombing of the Marine Barracks in Beirut Lebanon alone the judgment was $8.8 billion. Those court verdicts were later validated by the world court. Iran has yet to pay one cent.

SN (Join to see) - Where did I "sanctimoniously" speak of interference in our elections? I am talking about a military coup d'etat of a lawfully elected government of a sovereign nation by our government. I then made an analogy as to how you would feel if after our presidential election another country instituted MILITARY intervention here on our soil. To my knowledge, no one had interfered in any of our elections before that, and if they did, it would have been considered an act of war. I am condemning any such interference by any administration.

MSgt Robert "Rock" Aldi I was serving overseas when the Marines were attacked and met several Marines in the hospital in Wiesbaden. I was incensed as was the nation. However, it was President Reagan who then pulled out of Lebanon. In less than two years, members of his cabinet exchanged arms to Iran for the return of hostages in Lebanon to fund anti-communist rebels in Nicaragua.

A pox on both their houses. I will not follow any party blindly. This continued siding with political parties, whether Republican or Democratic, has resulted in the same kind regionalism and factionalism that has led to these foreign entanglements in the first place. President Washington warned us about this in his Farewell Address.
