I was just there last November. When my wife said “I could take the kids back to the hotel while you keep looking around” I said “bye”. I spent another 3 hours exploring. Outstanding museum!

I recently went to NO and took the tour of the Chalmette Battlefield. Amazing battle and tactics.

Maj Kevin "Mac" McLaughlin, I lived in the New Orleans area for 2.5 years in the mid-eighties. People that lived in Chalmette were frequently called Chalmatians!

COL John McClellan, on his way to fight the Battle of New Orleans, Jackson and his army marched south down Wilson (turn)Pike in Brentwood, TN, stopping to purchase rifles at Forge Seat, the home of Samuel Crockett. It's only about three miles from my front door and I pass by the home frequently. It's still a private residence and not open for visitation.

So we took the Creole Queen riverboat to get there and I have to say I was very impressed by the guide on the boat who both spoke about the battle and Hurricane Katrina (details I never knew from a local and one who helped with the response). Turns out the guy was a West Point Grad and an Army Lawyer in his previous life. Never caught his name though.
