I think some people have worked hard to overwrite their instinct to care for others, especially the young and helpless

I suspect Jonathan Haidt is not well received by colleges and universities around the country; sadly, they are the ones who could benefit the most.

CMSgt (Join to see) My thoughts as well. At first, I wondered, but as I listened intently to the video, it became clear he was being very subtle about his message. I found it interesting how he drew the liberals in, only to in his last 3 mins to hear a stunned silence as his flawless logical about "listening" was applied. That is why I enjoy Ted Talks. Some speakers are, not that interesting, but this guys now has my interests.

Interesting video. Just a couple take aways from it. First, being closed-minded is not a purely Conservative trait. I have come across it it in many Liberals and Progressives. To meet and solve the many problems facing us, as a country and as members of the global community, takes compromise. Both must be willing to give on what they think is moral. Kinda goes along with what he was saying about stepping outside of the moral matrix.

SGT Edward Wilcox VERY CORRECT, Closed-mindedness is not specific to one group. I have seen it across all spectrum. I think the speaker was poking fun at liberals in a way "liberals" did not expect. I actually love his subtle approach which begged me to post he video.

While he got some laughs at "conservative" expense I believe he was communicating some more nusicanced and subtle messing that is important to consider, that is not obvious.

Also, people have to be very comfortable stepping outside their "comfort zones". This is always a limiting factor in the "moral math" that is calculated. Had Einstein remained inside his head and never put pen to paper or sought confirmation for his calculations would E=mc2 been a thing, as they say?

Finally, "It is those who question without accusing that are more likely to open a door once closed, vs the person who applies pad locks to doors to close off honest debate because they are too afraid to take an deeper look at the facts of the matter in order to uncover an - inconvenient truth about themselves." Just a thought!
