Presidential Misconduct: Some Historical Perspective | National Review

I fear the opportunity for rational discussion/debate is long past. The American House divided like Moses parting the Red Sea on the night that Donald Trump was elected and the hysteria began. When Prof Turley quoted A Man For All Seasons, he was attempting to warn the House against an intemperate rush to decision. What he failed to acknowledge was that the decision was reached long ago and that the current show is merely an attempt to sell it to the American people. Sadly, they too are already firmly sided for and against. Thus, the show will continue to its tragic ending (whatever that ending may be, it will be tragic), and historical perspective be damned

I agree. It is no defense. I think President Trump' often pushes the envelope with the things he says but his actions are what he promised the American people

I'm personally glad we live in a nation where even those at the "top" are not immune from the scrutiny of the law. That being said, I also believe that in the wrong hands, 'good' laws can be every bit as tyrannical as all-powerful individuals. I'm just a layman, but it seems to me that the only thing (so far) that's been able to "stick" is refusing to permit staff to answer subpoenas... maybe that's a "legitimate" charge, perhaps it isn't... but it sure seems "fishy" to try and nail the Chief Executive for refusing to permit his people to testify in a hearing called for the sole purpose of trying to nail him. I'm not a Democrat...but if I were, I'd want my party to focus on presenting an electable candidate, rather than trying (apparently in vain) to convince the "base" and the average voter that they should oust the current President in the twilight of his first term. In my humble opinion, if one really believes Trump is an incompetent, a traitor, or both...the most logical way to solve the problem is to win the next election. If that proves impossible, maybe it isn't asking too much to consider whether or not it's the people...or your platform, that's to blame?
