Yes, you just described a foreign policy quid pro quo. We give something (security). We get something (influence/position).
The question is, are the arrangements always a good deal for the US. Do we get what we "pay for". Is the soft influence or hard influence worth the price of admission for tax payers. Sometimes we stay in places well beyond our local welcome. Okinawa, for some, might be an example of that "overstay".
Those in the armed forces are not diplomats any more than tourists are diplomats. They are Americans, in a country, that may have positive influence/impression or a negative one.
South Korea has enjoyed and benefited greatly from the umbrella of freedom provided by the US. When you look at South Korea circa 1955 vs today, the change could not be any more stark. We, the US taxpayers should foot less and less of that bill as SK has become stronger, more economically successful etc. That does not mean we are not allies, friends and share many values etc. It is time for some to carry more of the load for themselves.

Can’t stop laughing. As soon as I started reading his statement I thought the same thing as your comment. Orange Man Bad. It’s simply the Comedy Channel now on RP. Cpl Jeff N.

Cpl Jeff N. kinda like HRC signing off 20% Uranium Tö Russia and then by no coincidence receiving $145 million from the Russians into your very own slush fund of a charity.

LTC (Join to see) - That is just a coincidence. Two unrelated events that the secretary of state was involved in. The Russians just love to donate to charities with no expectation of anything in return. They are just that caring and giving.

Cpl Jeff N. a charity foundation so important that it folded soon after her epic defeat. Honestly, I’m ready for HRC to make it 0 for 3.
