...and acknowledge his world view is as valid as ours. Hurting someone's feelings is not a legal wrong, especially the hyper-sensitive feelings of many modern youth.

part of migrating is understanding the the local populations cultures and traditions. Part of serving overseas is understanding the local populations cultures and traditions.

I'd say they understand them pretty well. Canadian vets get nearly zero recognition for the sacrifices they make overseas. I've been up there extensively, Toronto specifically, and they are very different from us in that regard.
