I've been a little suspicious of Graham for years. I am not sure how he can go from thinking this was a betrayal to a pretty good opportunity in a few days. I am all for trying new ways to get better solutions for some of these issues. Graham reacted like a classic swamp creature initially. Who knows where this will lead but this region has been a disaster for decades. We can't keep doing the same thing and expecting different results.

I think that getting out of Syria rather than maintaining a post in that quagmire forever is the correct decision. It should have been thought out and less rushed, but correct.
Senator Graham's comments however, just make him look unprincipled.
I understand fully the concerns and anger many feel about leaving the Kurds to look to their own affairs, and seeing an erstwhile ally in Turkey attack them.
As mad as people out there might be on the deaths of Kurds, it pales in comparison to combat elsewhere in Syria, even right now.
Syria is not our fault, and it is not our problem. They need to figure this out and when they are ready to sit down and normalize the situation, perhaps we can help. But hanging a few hundred troops out on the end of a very tenuous string as some form of tripwire is bad policy. As someone who has been that guy out there (not in Syria, but several other places), it is not a good place to be. Just ask the guys who were at Waynat, or Benghazi, or Nigeria.
These interventions are often necessary, but they need to be supported, resourced, and have clear and achievable objectives.
