I'm looking forward to the day when the power grid is obsolete. Electric generation will be done via fuel cells. The fuel cells will be fueled by hydrogen and oxygen obtained by solar-powered splitting of water.
Instead of depending on a centralized generating of electricity, and transmission of that power over many miles of "grid", it will be decentralized. Any place with sunlight and water available can support such an electric power plant.

And a man dies who needed power to run his breathing air.... The electric cars have no power stations (but don't worry Tesla will get the added power packs out in a couple of weeks, after they get the permits approved by California). What a goat rope all the way around.
