Or was it the Kurds were willing to accept our help to fight a war they were already involved? The problem with training and supporting Kurdish nationalist groups is that we really don't control where they will aim that training once that threat from ISIS or whomever is removed. Turkey has been pretty clear that the wouldn't accept a large and well armed Kurdish presence, read YPG, on the Turkish frontier. That isn't our fight.

Well I find it very disdainful to let the Kurds fight a common enemy and then pull the rug from them. It's OK to use them when it suits us, now their existence is being challenged.
The strategic consequences is we have made the Kurds vulnerable to the Turkish military, and probably significantly decrease the Kurds ability to fight ISIS.
