Especially when you look at the line items that were cut from Europe to build his wall.

Additional information this morning " Air Force Brig. Gen. Ed Thomas said in a statement. "In this case, they made reservations through the Defense Travel System and used the closest available and least expensive accommodations to the airfield within the crews' allowable hotel rates."
My opinion, but any attempt by Trump or DOD Travel offices to maximize use of Trump's facilities would take a DOD policy memo or some other force wide communication which would have leaked immediately. Trump and his family love making money, but he nor they are stupid. I can imagine turning to my copilot or crew and saying offhand it would be neat to overnight in a Trump place

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - Slim pickings for Air Force after we left :) . We always thought we were in high cotton if we could RON at an AFB. Your transient quarters made ours look like WWII buildings that had been condemned..oh wait, ours were condemned WWII buildings

LtCol Robert Quinter I spent one night at Camp Lejeune VOQ in the 80s, it wasn't half bad but fortunately I didn't drink the water. :-))

Astute observation sir and as an experienced crew member, I think that's exactly what happened; they bought gas at EGPF instead of ETAR (pilot's discretion) and followed the rules otherwise. Trump's lodging manager on-sight probably adjusted the rate to meet the federal per diem rate. Crafty reservists but no crime...

As a career C-5 crew member who slept in both filth and five stars: Good grief. This is pure anti-Trump sensationalism. Get it: A C-17 going from the east coast to the "box" can stop somewhere in Europe for gas or be aerially refueled or they can run out of gas over the med. Period. Does anyone not understand that aerial refuel is cosmically more expensive and only done for specific missions? So they went to F&%$ing Glasgow international instead of Rammstein. BFD. And they got to have breakfast at the boss's golf resort - at his invitation. What a crime. They should be so ashamed. These are guys and gals spending 250-300 days a year on the road for the past 18 years. You stay awake for 40 hours straight, sleep half what a normal person does, you go around the world in six days, get divorced, lose your kids, bring home dead bodies, get fired upon, deploy, live off the Shoppette food and then one Friday afternoon it's over. Retired and forgotten by all except the other zipper-suits. One night at Turnberry will be a story they can tell. What the hell are people mad at?

Don't think anyone is complaining about the crews. It's the multiple refueling stops at an airport on the verge of shutting down because it couldn't meet it's operating expenses.

Maybe I'm missing something but as I read that, Trump's resort rather than Glasgow IAP is in financial trouble. The fuel bill would be substantial but that revenue goes to a commercial fuel vendor not Trump's golf course. Anyway, we buy gas from civilian FBO's all the time. More to the point, I'm not seeing how a couple of crews going through there has any chance of ameliorating the fiscal situation. (They might stay and drink and play a round on the house. At the very least, their travel voucher will likely reflect the standard government rate for lodging.
