I discuss the Vietnam War at great length in my weblog, including both observations from my tour of duty and my view on the aftermath. Sadly, the history being taught in schools today is gleaned from the pages of news reports generated by journalists seeking to espouse an ideological view rather than the facts occurring at the time. And, as if that weren't bad enough, retrospectives by celebrity journalists like Mike Wallace continue to fan the flames that consume the truth and promote the lies. Fortunately, today's high school students are reaching out. Some have found their way to my blog as well as the book I compiled from my blog postings. I have seen their book reports appearing on websites and they give me hope that the truth will prevail. I hope that other veterans share their experiences so that our story isn't all one sided

Once again it is my honor to share the story of another veteran. This one is unique in that it was written by the veteran himself. I only edited it. Hopefully, it will encourage others to open up and...

The truth is the ground war was won. Thye same democrats that are trying to ruin this country today are the same bastards that cut promised funding to the South Vietnam. Congress just left the ARVNs on their own.

I was their in 65-66. The Politicians placed so many restrictions on the Military it was like fighting with 0ne hand tied behind your back. The Politicians were afraid that the Chinese would enter the conflict. If we had bombed Hanoi right away I think things would have been different. Everytime we got close to knocking the communists out of the war. Our president Johnson or Nixon take your pick would go to the peace table instead of finishing the job. Kai San was a good example of that. The North Vietnamese knew the American People would win the war for them, because they knew they could wait us out. We got a peace to save face, then we left. 2years later the north attacked in force. We didn't even get all the south Vietnam people out that helped us fight the war. Ford cut off the economic help they didn't even have any Ammo to fight with. They did the next best thing. They ran. The American GI,s got blamed for the war. We don't have a draft today because it is unpopular for any politician to even think of it. 36 years after the war when we see a veteran we thank him for his service. Semper Fi.

SFC David Reid, M.S, PHR, SHRM-CP, DTM - How about asking for permission to Shoot back? Or in my case going on alert with a rifle but no ammo on me personally. Somehow the Ammo would just get to me once I was fired at?

before we landed on a mike boat (Landing Craft) We were told that we were guests of the Vietnamese people and we could not fire our weapons at anything unless we were personally fired at. We also could not have a round in the chamber. We had to be fired at first. Being a Marine Veteran and in the Army at the time Common sense told me to to have that M14 ready to fire in a split second. We quickly learned to keep our distance from the Vietnamese adults and children. We didn't know who was VC and who wasn't. I was in an Ammo Ord. Plt. (205th) and an Ammo Supply point is like a magnet to the VC. Semper Fi.
