This is a seriously bad set of numbers. And the worst rate are often for our newest and most advanced aircraft. These are often the most objective statistics that strategists (and not just logisticians) should pay close attention to. Senior leaders need to be made aware that none of these aircraft were designed to fight continuous war for 27 years. Do you want to keep plinking white pickups in the desert, or do you want to be ready to defend against a peer threat? Can't do both.

What peer threat? Should we maintain two air forces, one to fight the enemy in front of us and another to fight a peer that might emerge?

I'm surprised to hear you doubt the problem. Last I heard, the Kaliningrad problem has not been solved, China continues it's push on the 2-line strategy with DF-21s leading the way, and we are on our cyber heels. But you know all this. You honestly think we're doing the right thing by wearing out high-end weaponry in a desert COIN fight we could end just by leaving? What would you do about the mission capable rates above? How do you fix the problem?

Budget issues for too long take a while to turn around. Super high end weapons systems have a higher rate of needed preventive maintenance and expensive parts.

Yes, exactly. They need to be on the ground sometimes with a good mechanic and parts available.
