My DCMA showcases the Defense Contract Management Agency’s experienced and diverse workforce and highlights what being a part of the national defense team means to them. Today we meet Joe S. Davis Jr.
My name is Joe S. Davis Jr., and this is “My DCMA.”
I am a contract administrator at DCMA Hampton in Virginia.
My job duties include contract receipt and review; processing the closeout of contracts; and evaluating contracts for excess funds, the de-obligation of excess funds determination and canceling funds.
I have been a part of the DCMA team since Oct. 2, 2017.
I like working at DCMA because we are one team with one voice delivering global acquisition insight that matters. I also like our values of integrity, service and excellence, which is a part of my being.
DCMA is important to America’s warfighters because we are the independent eyes and ears of the Department of Defense and its partners, delivering actionable acquisition insight from the factory floor to the front line, around the world. DCMA is, first and foremost, a product delivery organization. Our nation’s warfighters expect our defense industry to deliver the equipment and systems they need to fight, survive and win.
As a former soldier, I can relate to the mission of DCMA as my former job was as a logistician in the Army providing supplies to combat units. As a result, it is gratifying being part of a team supporting DoD in all aspects of the acquisition life cycle of contracting.
My favorite hobbies include learning more about military history, supporting organizations such as the Wounded Warrior Project, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Army Historical Society, Association of the United States Army, various Veterans Administration’s Health programs, and spending time with my family.
My future career goals at DCMA include attaining my contracting warrant and becoming an administrative contracting officer.
Something unique about me is that I attained my Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act, also known as DAWIA, Level II certification in April. I am a retired Army sergeant first class with more than 25 years of service. I am a combat veteran of the Global War on Terrorism, having served in both Afghanistan and Iraq, and I served on a humanitarian mission to Haiti. I was also recently awarded the Army Transportation Corps’ Distinguished Member of the Regiment on May 7 at Fort Lee, Virginia, for my prior military service.
There are some of the great things about working at DCMA Hampton. I like my team, and my coworkers are really great to work with here. I am learning a lot from Terry Williams, the administrative contracting officer, and Rita Ware, my team leader, who has helped me grow my contracting skills by leaps and bounds. I also admire Matthew Mullins, the contracts director, for his leadership and his steadfast commitment to excellence and customer service.
DCMA Hampton is the perfect location for me to work because of the camaraderie and teamwork.
