CPT Jack Durish Around our lake here(TN),i grew up calling them "snake doctors" or "mosquito hawks" they were very numerous, but had little effect out the population of mosquitoes there.
I do not remember seeing any in Vietnam,of course i did see a few mosquitoes.

Mosquito hawks and dragonflys (snake doctors) are two different insects. This is a mosquito hawk. Maybe you had a different name for them...

CPT Jack Durish - We called the dragonflys "mosquito hawks" because they were devastating to the mosquitoes and another mosquito-like insect we called "woolies" that had a fuzzy proboscis instead of the needle like one of the mosquito.

I didn't know that either. Maybe we should have imported thousands of them to take care of the mosquitoes.
