Notre Dame fire: Charred beams, rescued relics and a vow to rebuild the cathedral

Heard on the news last night that they are saying that France does not have enough big trees to reconstruct the roof of Notre Dame. Looking at the picture with this article I see lots of charred remains of the roof. That got me thinking, we have the technology to make recycled lumber, could this process be used to make replacement beams for the roof? Kind of an ashes to ashes thing.

I don't know the answer, but what I do know is, England received a lot of timber from us when we were a colony.

Sgt (Join to see) Very good point. I have no idea what building codes in France are like, but when we wanted to replace a wooden staircase in the aquarium where I worked the Fire Marshall insisted on a steel staircase clad with wood.
