US-backed Kurdish fighters want international tribunal for ISIS detainees

Have you ever heard anyone at work say, "That's not my job?" Welcome to the international version.
One could say it's due to a lack of planning. One could say it's due to a lack of humanity. One could say it's simply due to a lack of interest.
Detained former ISIS fighters, numbering over 7,000 total, have to go SOMEWHERE, but SOMEONE has to accept responsibility for them. Maybe two dozen nationalities are in play, including European nationals who are being disavowed by their homelands.
International tribunals are a fair idea, but there's a gap between here and there that could be impossible to bridge. In the mean time, the Kurds are housing, clothing and feeding a group of people who not long ago they were killing on the battlefield.
No one seems to appreciate that for over 17 years the world has been critical of the US solution to heretofore unlawful combatants in the Global War on Terror by funneling them through the US military detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. "It's a gulag," said some. "They torture people there," said others. "It's illegal," cried the humanists. "Let them all go," yelled Islamist sympathizers.
Where are these pundits and second-guessers now?
Why aren't these folks coming out of the woodwork to help advocate for a fair, humanist approach to dealing with several thousand now displaced Islamist fighters?
According to the article, the Kurds have processed many through courts that appear lenient towards at least the Arab detainees. The Kurds could continue the process, but what happens if they find some "guilty" of war crimes and then decree a long term sentence. Where do they go? There is no death penalty in the Kurdish legal operation, so the status becomes either freedom or incarceration for those who are lucky enough to be adjudicated.
Where is the International Committee of the Red Cross in all of this? Are they even present in Syria? Why the stealthy profile? Why no statement about what the disposition should be.
In my opinion, the ICRC, UN, NATO and all others who pretend to care about how detainees are treated and processed need to put up or shut up.
The reality at "Club Gitmo" is that 731 detainees have been RELEASED, and NONE executed or beheaded, or routinely abused or tortured. The remaining detainees are deemed either too dangerous to release, or are awaiting war crimes trial. The US can't seem to get out of our own way with the Law of War trials of about 10 detainees, and only one has been convicted and is serving time there.
I believe that unless all the countries and personalities who have ever criticized Gitmo come forward and offer to assist with the disposition of these ISIS detainees, they have no right to criticize what eventually happens to them and never say another foul word about Gitmo.
Gitmo is an Islamist rest and recreation center, with top-notch medical, dental and vision care, Muslim accouterments and luxuries at every turn, recreation, entertainment and sports facilities.
It is ridiculous to believe all the nonsense the Left spews about the absolute BEST military detention facility on earth, and at the same time completely turn one's back on the human crisis playing out in Syria.
Put up or shut up. Do the right thing. Pool your brainpower, swallow some pride and DEAL with the ISIS detainees in MODEL FASHION. You have the chance to show the US and the rest of the world how it is supposed to be done. Ready? Go!

Indeed. But their world political position is tenuous at best. they can' afford to be accused of war crimes themselves. All the human rights groups scream about Gitmo, the absolute BEST military detention facility on earth, but can't get out of their own way to come together and help resolve this situation. I guess the only thing you could do to get their attention would be to sent them to Guantanamo Bay.

MAJ Montgomery Granger - I agree with you, but frustrated people can lash out. I like and admire the Kurds and wish them well. The U.N is a bad joke are they trying or even pretending to try to do anything?
