I remember another discussion thread about the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918. It was truly horrific and the television mini-series Downton Abbey explores it fairly well from the English perspective. Sometimes one could seem barely affected and then die a horrific death. Others would seem to be at death's door and then recover. Check Episode 8 of Season 2 for that's exactly what happens!

Was watching a film about WWI last night and at the end soldiers were getting the flu and dying. More died from the flu than the war.
