Looks like history is repeating itself. Where have we seen this before: “an armed paramilitary group of white Democrats”...

When reading the second Amendment and reading the Federalist Papers I find no confusion over the purpose of the 2nd Amendment.

The fact that Presser v. Illinois and McDonald v. Chicago occurred in the same city is a great testimony to the people of Chicago - we will not sit by and let our rights be trampled on. It took over a 100 years to get this right partially restored - that's why its important to not give an inch. Currently there are still efforts to take away our rights in IL. Village of Deerfield passed legislation that bans "assault rifles", semiautomatic pistols with a 10+ round capacity and more. The law was based on 2013 Highland Park law that was upheld by 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals - Supreme Court declined to take the case. What's particularly troubling is that the law, military and government are exempt from the ban - this is precisely what the 2nd was intended to prevent. This serves a clear reminder that as individuals we need to keep fighting for our rights on a daily basis.
