This is a red herring article imho. They know they can get a majority of people on board with this. Most gun owners I know have no interest in automatic weapons or bump stocks.

I have an interest in owning an automatic weapon, but I cannot afford to shoot one. Bump stocks are stupid in my opinion and would never own one.

It disturbs me that some gun owners do not find this to be a problem. Yes, bump stocks are pretty much stupid. But the precedent is the important part here.

1) The ATF made a ruling that bump stocks and similar devices are legal in good faith. A sudden turn around like this is a bad faith ruling. And when it comes to firearms, bad faith rulings can turn into sloes very quickly.
2) Bump stocks use a mechanical loophole to allow users to fire more quickly. The issue I see is, what is the ATF going to ban next that modifies the internals? Using the logic of bump stocks, it is easy to argue that drop in or third party triggers make a firearm faster to shoot. How fast is going to be too fast for the ATF?
