The tone of the article was nuclear fortified positions were strongholds unable to be defeated and could support forward positions. It also read Russian annezation of Crimea as one example and the Taliban in Afganistan as another example of where large scale operations are negated. This article is not writing the whole truth.
What forced Russia to take back the Crimea it allowed Ukraine to control in the 1950's and who controls the narrative in Afganistain? Also, a fortified position can not be defended without support. Which Russia and China has. But not all States have enough support. The article was more correct in stating large scale formations maybe part of the past. IMO.
Russia has national interests just as we do. They saw what was happening in the Ukraine and took back control of what Catherine the Great took from the Turks. It's their back yard. Who is pooping in our back yard now with the caravans? We do not want direct war with Russia, not just because they have Nukes, but because we have common interests that should be grown. However, an AI program can do a lot of damage to a tech savvy fortified position. Also, let the reborn Roman Empire protect themselves.
In this way we could make our Army smaller and more mobile/lethal.
Afganistain. What a cluster. The enemy has the narritive and it will not matter how many we kill. Every two years they will get fresh blood from the Mosques and Madrasses. They are at war with the world per Muhammad's orders. But we don't want to put that in the paper.
Instead, we lie to ourselves.
If the Army and Marine Corp has to be in Afganistan, let us take the high ground at selected points and secure the area with patrol, dorne swarm, H.E. grid points, Warthogs and Corbras. Not forgetting avenues of approach.
Someone started crap in the Ukraine and someone took over the Arab Spring turning it into the Arab Spring Holiday of Blood. Which destroyed the ME and Europe with an invasion from a 7th culture that is costing the tax payer their lives and culture. The same is happening here with the poor as pawns in a political agenda.
We need the Army to be strong. Russia was pushed out of Syria for a bit due to the Saudis sent 300,000 man military towards them. Russia got back on their ships for a time.
Where is our weakness? It is the counter poop our enemies give us after we poop on them and not telling ourselves the truth about the war on Islamic terror. Nuclear fortified positions we can handle. Russia and China have issues protecting their supply lines at distance. Everyone else does not have the support needed to go to war with us. However, they could commit suicide attacking us.
