I know this song and band has been posted on RP in the past. And once again, it spontaneously emerged on my youtube feed! Go Figure. Anyhow:
First, Debbie Harry's stage presence in the Midnight Special theater is quite superb. She pauses at the beginning of the song, in my mind, to allow for anticipation to build within the crowd. She moves toward the crowd after singing the first verse of the song. If you listen closely, you might hear the crowd increase their screams of euphoria as she moves toward the edge of the stage.
Second, Clem Burke, the drummer of Blondie, makes a simplistic beat on the snare and base to set the time for the band. I've heard drummers for other bands say that simplicity is preferred to some of the more complex drum rolls in rock. I think that probably depends on the band and the song. Burke wields impressive sticks for Blondie and the crowd.
Third, the remaining band mates lend excellent support to the subtle coordination of a classic!
What is really wrong with today's music culture? IMHO, performers, far too often sacrifice quality for instant stardom and fail to build anticipation with the crowd in small intimate settings.

It's hard to make that connection in the huge settings that so many of today's performers seem to prefer. You need binoculars to see them if they don't have huge screens up.

Some of the younger performers in large venues might not realize that staying relevant in music requires talent, the ability to change with the times and remain connected. My use of the word "connection" should not imply to digital communications. As soon as social media and advanced technology are placed into a smaller venue, the intimacy of the concert disappears, and chemistry miraculously grows feet and walks out - stage left.
