Yea just like when there’s a government shutdown that effects workers pay and benefits it should apply to Congress as well. It’s too bad they are salaried and not paid by the hour cause they hardly work.

Col Jim Harmon I disagree about US Senators being appointed by the State Assembly. US senators don’t answer to the State Assembly but to the people of the state. We’ve seen how a Red State will elect a Democrat to represent them and vice versa. There’s a reason that dynamic exists. The State Assembly isn’t always representative of the state.

Capt Gregory Prickett The state has a governor and a legislature/assembly to represent them. So why do we need Senators representing the state and not the people? Perhaps critics are right that the Senate should be dissolved. Elected officials in a democratic republic should represent the majority (not minority) that elected them. A gerrymandered state that represents the minority that appoints federal representatives that also represent the minorities interest is a disservice to the Republic. No let the majority voices be heard.

Capt Gregory Prickett Of course the governors have a role in federal politics. They court Congressmen and meet the president all the time about policy and federal funding that will impact their states, their local economies, their residents.
Senators constantly push legislation that will benefit their states ; it’s just a matter of does it benefit their workers or the business elites. The people should have a voice as to who represents them in federal government at the district level and state level.
For argument sake, the recent actions of the Wisconsin, Michigan and North Carolina GOP controlled legislatures are cause for why US senators should be chosen by the people and not the legislature. They tend to act in defiance of what their constituents want.
