There are so many "short traders" that try to make a quick buck. Much of the volatility we see today can be traced to "day-traders", the markets are overrun with them. Most of the middle-class have their stocks in their 401K account, where the ups and downs don't mean much, because they are in it for the long haul.

No sweat it will pick back up in a couple of months. If you think long term you should do well. Some folks sell for losses to offset their gains, especially towards the end of the year for tax purpose (please be mindful of wash-sale rule). Stock market is risky, but you can lower the risk by doing a ton of due diligence. The road to riches is never a straight path...it's long and winding.
