I read a story a while back about an American private who got tired of doing drill and ceremony during the one year he was called for the Nationwide draft. He went AWOL and went to Canada. There he came to Alberta and went to Flight Training. He became a second lieutenant in the Canadian Air Force. He ended up eventually flying B-24 Liberator bombers over Scotland looking for German submarine. He rose to the rank of Captain. After the war, he went to college and married his sweetheart then reported in to the US authorities. They threw him in the brig for a month. He contacted the Canadian embassy and they forwarded to the Pentagon his Canadian service record. He was let go by the judge on one condition that he forfeit his back LOL! I forget how many Americans went to fight for Canada but they were quite a few!

LTC (Join to see) - Yes, I too have read about others who joined in Canada and later transferred to USAAF.
