Coasters
Thank you my friend SGT (Join to see) for sharing the audio track of The Coasters performing Yakety Yak form 1958 in honor of the sad fact that on" November 5, 1986, Bobby Nunn of The Coasters died of heart failure in Los Angeles. The Coasters scored the 1958 US No.1 single 'Yakety Yak', 1959 US No.2 and UK No.6 single 'Charlie Brown' as well as 'Young Blood' and 'Poison Ivy.'"
When I was plebe at West Point during Beats Barracks in the summer of 1976, we had a First Class cadet [senior] who loved 1950s songs which he used as Jodie's for us to march to. I well remember learning 'Yakety Yak' and marching to it that summer :-)
"Yakety Yak" written by Mike Stoller and Jerry Leiber
Lyrics
"Take out the papers and the trash
Or you don't get no spendin' cash
If you don't scrub that kitchen floor
You ain't gonna rock and roll no more
Yakety yak (don't talk back)
Just finish cleanin' up your room
Let's see that dust fly with that broom
Get all that garbage out of sight
Or you don't go out Friday night
Yakety yak (don't talk back)
You just put on your coat and hat
And walk yourself to the laundromat
And when you finish doin' that
Bring in the dog and put out the cat
Yakety yak (don't talk back)
Don't you give me no dirty looks
Your father's hip, he knows what cooks
Just tell your hoodlum friend outside
You ain't got time to take a ride
Yakety yak (don't talk back)
Yakety yak, yakety yak
Yakety yak, yakety yak
Yakety yak, yakety yak"
