If you have homeless Vets in your AOR, contact the Housing Authority that operates in your AOR for further information. Speaking from experience, the due to the fact that funding for this program is limited, and that if you verify eligibility and provide the voucher, only approx. 1 out of 10 vets who receive a VASH Voucher will be able to FIND and KEEP a roof over their heads which will break your heart. The root of this problem stems from lack of available rental stock, uneducated landlords, discriminatory landlords, eligibility requirements, the transient nature of homeless Vets, and worst of all, a significant portion of these homeless Vets due to a mental disability cannot manage to operate their lives in a "normal" (to us) fashion, let alone find and keep assisted housing. Supervising this program (VASH Voucher) and the other programs attached to the Section 8 Voucher Program left me with stress levels through the roof because you cannot help everyone.

Sounds like Veterans Matter is doing a great job bridging the gap between the VA/HUD requirements and the homeless Veteran who may be without the capabilities to act on their own behalf at times.

"At Veterans Matter, he has recruited an A-list of celebrities for public service announcements and fund raising, including Willie Nelson, Katy Perry, Gary Sinise, Susan Sarandon, Kid Rock, Stevie Nicks, John Mellencamp, and Dusty Hill of ZZ Top, among others. They deliver the message that veterans "fought for us, now we fight for them."
