Manafort was convicted of eight counts in the tax and fraud trial in the Eastern District Court of Virginia earlier this year. The jury foreman from that case attended the hearing on Friday and sat in the audience as a spectator.
Manafort also pleaded guilty to related federal charges in Washington, D.C., in a plea agreement to avoid a trial there and in exchange for cooperating with prosecutors.

What are is health issues? Why not use catch and release like they do with other lawbreakers?

Because he is connected to the President. I suspect they want to push and see if the President will pardon him and then they will go after Trump in the media.

I do not have a problem putting lawbreakers in jail, however, there is something else going on here. Did you know they kept Manafort in solitary confinement? For breaking tax law? Solitary is used for those convicted of violent crimes. He was denied bail and then made to wait a significant amount of time after conviction before sentencing...he is being punished out of proportion to his crimes.
