Opinion | An unsparing look at the Vietnam War’s mountain of lies

War is never pretty, and it is not like the movies. I grew up during the war and remember hearing things from some of my buddies when they came home and yet I entered the military during that time. I had no misconceptions of what that war was all about and what was happening over there and I don't understand why this is such a surprise, but yet I do understand that when history is not learned or even taught in school, we are doomed to repeat it!

Did you feel as I did at that time, that regardless of noble motives, going into Iraq & Afghanistan was going to turn into another Vietnam? Sometimes, unless you do what Rome did to Carthage, military force and war is NOT the answer.

The discussion of that war will continue, with differing opinions, as long as there are 2 remaining Veterans of that war alive.
