Military transition is just like a military operation. You need a good plan, people to help, resources, rehearsals, and back-up plans to make sure that you accomplish your goals. When I transitioned, I did not have a good plan, I was not prepared to be unsuccessful, and I did not know how to translate and apply my military skills to business.
1. Attitude is everything. Attitude is one of the most important mental criteria that will make an employee shine in terms of both performance and leadership. Ensure you have a positive and constructive attitude for even the most seemingly mundane tasks.

Why would you do less planning for a transition out than you would a PCS or an exercise?

Also, don't get car insurance with a company that markets to veterans but cancels your coverage after your car is vandalized the second time and refuses to give or discuss an explanation.

I don't think there's enough time taking on the discussion of transition to civilian life from the military. I transitioned off active duty in 2004 and literally had a few classes (TAP/TAMP) that didn't prepare me for anything. With all the benefits now, you could probably spend a month going over everything and still not cover it all.
