Probably a very good thing, China needs to realize that there are more players in the region than the US.

The Chinese have been pushing Japan's buttons. Time for a push back.

Sgt Wayne Wood Good info here, if you are interested. Also, before I retired, we pulled the fuses (breakers) on our active sonars, and active sonar missed Diesel we were against. BTW, I was a submarine sailor for my entire career.

The AIP concept is intriguing... but (there’s always a ‘but’) it would appear to me that the volatility of the individual fuel components (or by-products of fuel creation) increase the accident hazard of the vessels.

Looking again at the speed/endurance factors, i see AIP as a good propulsion for specialized vessels for intelligence gathering or in-shore/near-shore littoral operations.

IIRC wasn’t the coup pulled off by the Gotland all within the Baltic? Home turf & all that?

Sgt Wayne Wood Paragraph one. No different than what we, on subs, have to deal with in the past and present.

Paragraph two, fairly accurate.

Paragraph three. Don’t know.
