Thank you SPC Gary Welch And that's the point, you never can outlaw everything that can be used as a weapon.

When pressed, gun-grabbers will usually admit that self-defense is justified, even if they wish everyone was a pacifist. But while they admit that basic right, the basic instinct of every living creature -- self-preservation, they don't want to "permit" the effective tools of that basic instinct, and right. Why? "Because guns are evil".

I think there are a lot of legal, structural, and most importantly cultural reasons why gun control isn't particularly effective in the US. A whole heck of a lot of things need to change before it ever would. In the above example, I agree that certainly those people with Petanque Balls would have been in deep, deep, kimchi if the attackers had an AK-47.

But they didn't; they had knives. The idea that if firearms are criminalized, then only criminals will have guns is true. But it seems in these areas where firearms are generally removed from society with no nearby source, the criminals don't usually have then either. Either they can't easily get them or they get jailed trying. That's why we keep on seeing these attacks being carried out with less mass lethal capable weapons like knives , swords and vehicles. Once in a while one is done with a gun, but that is the vast minority.

As a society they have made the decision, "Hey I'm willing to defend myself with Petanque Balls as long as the people I'm defending myself against most likely will only have something like a knife." Maybe they're right, maybe they're wrong, but that's the tradeoff they made.
