PVT Mark Brown I think there are good reasons and bad reasons for changing out the uniforms in the different military branches. From an Army perspective, I can tell you I was extremely happy and saved a bunch of money when they got ride of the old OD Green Fatigues in the Army that I wasted money on every other week getting starched at the cleaners, so they could stand up in the corner by themselves; and then when we went to the camouflage woodland series in the late 80's all the way up until I deployed in OIF 05-07 and we still had them starched. Then came the ACU's (which I didn't mind) for the desert, but now they've changed them again and I've talked to my former colleagues in the military and they hate the new Army Camouflage uniforms. There is a lot of wasted money on uniforms in the Government with the constant changes in Utility/Combat Uniforms and then there is the dress uniforms (that is a whole new story for the Army). It is very costly for Warrant and Commissioned Officers that usually have to buy their onw uniforms. Somebody is making money on all these changes. I think that part of it is EGO also. A New Army Joint Chief or a New Army SMA wants to make their mark during their tour. Some of the changes have been good for the soldiers in combat and some have been stupid for Garrison and dress frankly. That is my two cents on the issue. Don't know if any of that made sense!

COL Mikel J. Burroughs Amen, I now wear what I want, but that actually makes it harder. It was easy to pick out what to wear will on active duty.

Maj Robert Thornton - Yea, your right - same thing 6 to 7 days a week depending what you were doing and where you were. Oh well - I just sit in my pajamas most of the day here at the computer. The best thing about working out of your home!

Think higher headquarters must have come down with a mandatory you must hold a formal occasion within XX days of it becoming mandatory. Agree with you, have seen bus driver uniforms similar to the blue one.

I came in the first year of BDUs and we could wear the OG 106, OG107 (Which we got issued at Ft Bragg CIF) or the BDUs. We could also wear the Khakis but they too were on the way out.
I Like the new Pinks and greens and wish they would bring back the Khakis for Garrison duty wear. The OCP is ok as I will not ever have to wear it. It was Bdus the ACus then I retired. The Blues as the only dress uniform is, was and will forever be a really bad bad idea.

This article quotes a Times piece questioning why the Air Force and Navy need camo. There may be a small number of both services that live and work outside of a ship or air base but they need to wear the same uniform as the Army folks they work with. Battlefield Airmen and EOD are right there with their Army peers and having folks in a different uniform leads to folks being made into targets. AF EOD folks had multiple people shot because AF leadership didn't want us in an Army uniform so we had to wear DCUs while our Army security teams wore they ACUs. So besides the HMMWVs with the robots on the back we were the only 2 or 3 people in a different uniform. Made for easy picking.
As it was back 10-15 years ago with the BDU, one uniform makes it easy to find and maintain uniforms with only service unique items such as name tapes and rank insignia to worry about. In theory the price per copy should be less since it is a widely purchased item vs. only one service designing and wearing a limited amount for their service.

The O.D. BDU like we had in ‘NAm and Thailand ... and the Marine pleated cover for Marine and AF <~
(AF crest on front of cover for AF and the Corps EGA for them). The Army can have their style..

SSgt Boyd Herrst - We never seem to get too far from our parent service though. Always following the Army.

Y’all must understand, this uniform bs is all about recruiting young people who want to look HOT. Why else would the USN adopt Blueberries?

It was a blue camo uniform that would keep people from seeing you if you fell overboard. The Black Suede Boots were a great touch.
