Support the troops—by allowing them to be ripped off

I look at this a bit different. I approach this from the why do we need protection in the first place? Then I am moved to look at second and third effects- since this is such a problem that they passed laws- why have our leaders not taken up this issue to ensure those serving are prepared for life's real choices? We have to be medically fit with our PHA and dental stuff, we require single parents have short/long term plans on file, and we have to get flu shots each year. Why are we not putting the same effort into making our troops more resilient in this area as well? As a former FM troop, I have seen and heard a million excuses on why a troop has issues. 90% of the time they are form being over extended and too much credit. House and vehicles that someone told them the bank said they could afford this much..... they neglect to consider maintenance and insurance costs, let alone the payments and life changes. Advertising here on RP from sponsors is cheery and screams come get in some debt...we love you and in a much lower font on the back of page 28 states until you have a late payment. Then you start the payday lender cycle...and the trouble begins. Lived it- been there and done that. Also climbed out of it and vowed not to get back there. Anyone else see this as a side issue? Also- Trump has not been around as long as debtors- I am not defending anything here- I am merely pointing out the obvious but we as voters are sheeped into believing things that make us breathe faster.

Total agreement with you. As with other areas, we seem to have a pick and choose mentality when it comes to what laws we choose to enforce. It's certainly not a Trump issue, this has been going on as long as there have been militaries.

Not at all. And they are looking to make some changes in SCRA's protections on deployed troops. What I've seen is they want to change the sections where a deployed service member gets lower interest rates on mortgages, can get out of cell phone and housing leases without penalties, no binding arbitration clauses allowed to be invoked if the service member raises SCRA, etc. while deployed. That has been a godsend to so many of our troops while they were deployed to Sandbox East and West. I know our nephew used these protections during his seven deployments.
I see way too many rip offs of the younger troops in my practice. I'm on the local court panel of SCRA attorneys that are utilized by courts when they suspect a person to a lawsuit is a service member. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've had to go in and have judgments overturned because these companies refuse to find out of the customer is a service member. (Hey dumbass, if their address is on a military base it's a good bet they are in the military.) Usually the service members don't have the credit scoring to get lower interest rates due to the fact they are still too young but to these companies they have a steady paycheck. Nor do the younger troops have the sophistication to understand exactly how the contracts actually work. I can't even follow most of these contracts and end up calling a couple of colleagues to walk me through it.

1stSgt Nelson Kerr - Probably not as much as the military parade, but the pockets of the scammers will probably net more than what the military parade costs.

1stSgt Nelson Kerr - Well there is that as well...a nation for the scammers, by the scammers. But you can bet the amount paid up front to get the rules changed will be money well spent for the back end...as I said, they will probably net more than what the military parade costs.

To this administration supporting con--artists and scammers is far more important that supporting the troops, They look after people like themselves/
